The Margate Log Cabin is one of the most unique venues in all of South Jersey — a historic bayfront private club built in 1935 with wood floated in from the Pine Barrens, sitting on the water with what regulars consistently call the best sunset view on the Shore. It is Margate City’s only private members club and one of the last of its kind in New Jersey.
The atmosphere is exactly what you’d hope a place like this would be: warm, welcoming, community-first. Chef Jimmy runs a daily-changing kitchen with a menu that punches well above typical bar food — clam chowder, shepherd’s pie, bangers & mash, BBQ brisket bites, blackened salmon, and a full lineup of wings, tenders, burgers, and sandwiches including the house Cabin Burger topped with pork roll and cheese. The outdoor bay bar draws a crowd every warm evening, and weekends bring live music to the tasting room.
Established 1935 — A Brief History
Construction began in 1932 when the Margate Fire Company built the Log Cabin as a secondary meeting place, using timber floated in from the Pine Barrens. The building was completed in 1935. In 1956, the firemen opened membership to the public, transforming it into a private social club where new members are sponsored by existing members — a tradition maintained to this day. Throughout its history the Cabin has held public events to help maintain the building and private fundraisers benefiting local nonprofits. Membership is currently closed.
